Hello, I am Dr. Michael Knox, the new school superintendent/principal. I am excited to inject enthusiasm into the veins of the school, expand the wings of school community collaboration, and make a significant impact on the lives of all students!
I describe myself as an energetic, positive, and charismatic leader with a strong moral purpose. In a collective effort, I plan to focus on strengthening parent relationships, improving student achievement, and enhancing student behavior while proudly promoting themes such as school morale and working together in a respectful manner.
At this point, I want to switch gears and offer more personal information. My parents provided me with a solid foundation anchored in core traditional and old school values. My mother is a retired security officer of twenty-two years from Princeton University and my late father was a culinary chef and proudly served in the Korean War as a Sergeant in the Marines.
I was born in Trenton, New Jersey. I actually have deep historical roots in the capital of New Jersey. My uncle Ernie Williams was the first Black Chief of Police in Trenton. My father is Leon Williams, who was the first African American male to attend Trenton Public Schools. The actual school, more commonly known as Junior #2, was eventually renamed after my father. Now the school is officially called Hedgepeth/Williams Middle School. The famous Brown vs. Board decision cited my father’s case in order to help secure the landmark victory.
The information about me does not stop there. In terms of my immediate family, I have a beautiful wife named Sarah (who still looks 21 in my eyes). My wife’s entire family is from the Caribbean island Trinidad and Tobago. I have three wonderful kids, Maya, Michael, and James–who soon will be ages 7, 9, and 11 respectively in July! I have been married for 12 years and I believe it will last forever and a day!
As you can imagine, I want to offer so much more insight, but I hope at least for now the information is helpful in terms of you getting to know me a little better. I have literally an “Open Door” policy so please come in to learn more about my educational philosophy and me.
In final, I look forward to meeting all of you and being your transformational school leader for years to come.
Dr. Michael Knox
